Will a Cane Corso Return Home if It Runs Away?

It's possible for a Cane Corso to find its way back home if it runs away. However, if someone takes the dog in or if it encounters danger, it's less likely to return. For the dog's safety, owners should take precautions such as ensuring doors are securely locked at home and always using a leash during walks.

How Dogs Navigate Home

Cane Corsos, like many breeds, have a well-developed sense of smell which they can use to follow familiar scents. In addition, they possess good visual capabilities and memory. If lost, they might not only return to the place where they got separated from you, but may even be able to find their way home. If you notice your Cane Corso is missing, first wait in the area where it was last seen while calling its name. If it doesn't return after some time, you need to start searching actively.

The Dangers of a Lost Dog

Unfortunately, in urban areas, there is a high chance of a lost dog being taken in by someone or facing some sort of danger. If this happens, the dog may not return home. To ensure your dog's safety, in addition to keeping doors locked and using a leash when walking, consider spaying or neutering your Cane Corso. If you're not planning on breeding the dog, neutering or spaying will remove the urge to wander and roam and keep your beloved pet safer.
