Can Indoor Cats Get Toxoplasmosis? How to Tell

Indoor cats are not immune to toxoplasmosis, especially if they consume uncooked meat or come into contact with environments contaminated with toxoplasma oocysts. While cats are primary hosts for Toxoplasma gondii, not all cats will contract it. The parasite is primarily transmitted through ingesting food contaminated with oocysts or through exposure to contaminated environments. Therefore, even indoor cats can be at risk, especially if they are given raw meat or if their litter box or surroundings are exposed to oocysts. To prevent toxoplasmosis, regular deworming and avoiding feeding raw meat are highly recommended. Cats are the main hosts of toxoplasmosis, but not every cat is infected.
