Is It Okay to Give Away a 20-Day-Old Teddy Puppy?

It's generally not recommended to give away a 20-day-old Teddy puppy. At this very young age, the puppy is still dependent on its mother's milk and hasn't been weaned yet, making it vulnerable to illness and stress. A puppy's immune system is still developing, and sudden environmental changes can significantly impact its health. It’s best to wait until the puppy is around six weeks (approximately one and a half months) old before rehoming.

A 20-day-old Teddy puppy is too young to be separated from its mother. At this stage, they typically haven't fully transitioned to solid food and still rely heavily on their mother's milk for nutrients. The stress of a new environment can trigger a severe stress response in such young puppies. They have limited ability to regulate their body temperature and their immune systems are still weak, making them prone to infections. It’s highly advised to wait until the puppy is around one and a half months old, when they are able to eat puppy food to get the nutrients they need. When you eventually give the puppy away, make sure you provide new owners with the puppy’s current food and needed supplies. Including a toy or blanket that smells like the mother dog can help the puppy adapt to its new home more easily. Before you do this, communicate with the new owners to brief them on the puppy’s feeding and care schedule to ensure the puppy's transition is as smooth as possible.
