How to Identify a Purebred Afghan Hound and Its Price

Purebred Afghan Hounds possess a distinctive build, characterized by a sufficiently long and muscularly arched neck. Their limbs are notably strong and powerful, allowing them to excel in running and jumping. These dogs are renowned for their athleticism and elegant appearance.

Identifying a Purebred Afghan Hound

Several key physical characteristics help in determining if an Afghan Hound is purebred:

1. Head and Facial Features: A purebred Afghan Hound has a head of moderate length, displaying a harmonious and balanced appearance when viewed from the front or side. Their eyes are almond-shaped and not overly prominent. Eyes that are round, protruding, or of a pale color are undesirable. The muzzle features a scissor bite, with the upper and lower teeth aligning perfectly, showing no underbite or overbite. The entire head should present clear and well-defined lines, giving a sculpted impression.

2. Neck, Body, and Back: The neck of a purebred Afghan Hound is sufficiently long, with strong and arched musculature that smoothly transitions into the shoulders. The shoulder blades are long and angled backwards. The topline of the body should run smoothly from the shoulders to the hips, with a strong and well-developed loin. The hip bones are quite prominent, and the height at the shoulder equals the distance from the chest to the rear end. The chest is moderately deep and wide.

3. Tail and Limbs: The tail of a purebred Afghan Hound should not be carried higher than the topline of the body, positioned appropriately neither too high nor too low. Their legs are very strong and powerful, contributing to their excellent running and jumping abilities. The most striking feature of the Afghan Hound is its long, dense, and silky coat. Even without elaborate grooming, they appear noble and elegant, captivating observers with their refined beauty.

The Price of an Afghan Hound

The price of an Afghan Hound is heavily influenced by factors such as pedigree and overall health. An Afghan Hound of mixed or uncertain lineage might be priced in the range of $2000 to $5000. However, a purebred Afghan Hound with a distinguished pedigree and superior quality often commands prices of $10,000 or more. A show-quality Afghan Hound with a champion pedigree could even cost between $20,000 and $30,000.

Afghan Hounds, originally from Afghanistan and Iran, are one of the world's most ancient dog breeds. They are considerably larger than many other dog breeds, often reaching a height of 70 centimeters and weighing approximately 25 kilograms. The most distinct characteristic of the Afghan Hound, aside from its size, is its long, luxurious coat and its aloof, independent temperament.Free access here:Pet Grooming
