Do Balinese Cats Feel Cold at 0 Degrees Celsius? Recognizing Signs of Coldness

Yes, cats, including Balinese cats, will feel cold at 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit). Cats generally have a lower tolerance for cold temperatures, and they start to feel uncomfortable when the temperature drops below 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit). When the temperature reaches 0 degrees Celsius or below, cats will feel very cold and are at risk of getting sick due to hypothermia.

A cat's normal body temperature ranges from 38°C to 39.5°C (100.4°F to 103.1°F). To remain comfortable, their environment should ideally be above 20°C (68°F). When temperatures drop below 10°C (50°F), cats will actively seek out warmer places, such as burrowing under blankets or sleeping on warm pads. If the temperature continues to fall to around 0 degrees Celsius, a cat without proper shelter and warmth can potentially freeze to death, especially if they are outdoors.

Signs of Coldness in Cats

When a cat feels cold, it may exhibit several symptoms. These include shivering, having a cold body to the touch, lethargy, curling up into a tight ball, and seeking out warm places like beds or blankets. Cats, in general, tend to be more sensitive to cold than heat. For domesticated cats, it's crucial for owners to ensure they are kept warm. Avoid keeping cats on balconies, especially during cold weather. Provide them with cat beds, blankets, and other warm bedding materials.
